Meet Tonya Josey

I’ve spent more than 25 years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and like many people in helping roles, I learned firsthand what burnout feels like. I was committed to my work and the people I served, but my own well-being often came last. What helped most wasn’t another certification—it was guidance. Having people who shared what they knew and reminded me I didn’t have to figure everything out alone made all the difference.
Over the past 11 years, I built Thrive Counseling Services a large group private practice that has grown to nearly 40 therapists across three locations in Union County, North Carolina. That experience taught me lessons you only learn by doing—about leadership, growth, sustainability, and balance. Those lessons are what I bring into my consulting work today.
Consulting is the heart of Thrive & Balance. I work with people navigating demanding careers, growth, and transition, offering practical, grounded support focused on clarity and sustainability—not hustle. This work is rooted in real experience, not theory.
Thrive & Balance exists because others helped me get started. I found real comfort in having guidance, and paying that forward is central to why I do this work.
Retreats came about because I needed space for myself—to step away, reset, and think clearly. Over time, I realized others needed that space too. Retreats offer a chance to slow down, reflect, and reconnect, with some including professional development or continuing education.
Outside of work, I’m happily married, raising two teenage boys, and love animals, travel, and hosting friends and family. Life is full, busy, and always moving—and balance matters.
If you’re looking for guidance from someone who understands both the work and the weight that comes with it, I’d love to connect.
